| Message from the League President |
|
The year 2001 ushered in a series of tumultuous political events in the country, and finally settled down with the historic turnover of the presidency through people power. As a result, I am also elevated to the presidency of the League of Provinces when ULAP President Governor Joey Lina assumed the hilt of the Department of Interior and Local Government with his appointment as Secretary of the DILG. Short as it may seem due to the May elections, my assumption as LPP President has heightened my political career having served as congressman and three-term governor of South Cotabato. It is a distinct honor to congratulate Her Excellency Gloria Macapagal Arroyo, the new President of the Republic. I would like also to congratulate all those who rallied behind and brought success to the EDSA People Power II. We all understand that ousting the former president is not the end of it. This is just the beginning of a new direction, a renewed impetus towards realizing the real meaning of people power. Now as president of this league, I strongly urge all the member provinces to extend full support and cooperation to the new administration. Let us all unite our people and lead them towards a better future and for the next generation. Huwag nating sayangin ang pawis at ang pagpupunyagi ng ating mga kababayan na handang magbuwis ng buhay para sa kalayaan at katarungan. Mabuhay tayong lahat!!! |
