The League of Provinces of the Philippines had a meeting with
Her Excellency President Gloria Macapagal Arroyo last Saturday, July
14, 2001 at Heroes Hall, Malacañang to induct the new set of officers
and at the same time meet the new governors.
During the meeting the president
announced that starting CY 2002, the internal revenue allotment (IRA)
share of local government units (LGUs) will be treated as automatically
appropriated and will only be allocated in accordance with the
prescribed formula in the Local Government Code of 1991. She also
issued the following directives:
- The remaining 4.045 B IRA that was
withheld in 1998 will be released in four equal installments and on a
monthly basis starting July 2001.
- Twenty five percent (25%) of the IRA
share of LGUs for December 2000 that was not released during the said
month will be released no later than November 2001. This amounts
to P 2.25 B.
