The League of Provinces of the Philippines (LPP) can be briefly described in just one word – humanitarianism. The endeavors and activities that took place and are still taking place by the LPP are extended universally for the benefit of all involved. Through programs pursued by local and foreign assistance like the United Nations Development Fund projects, a collective understanding and progress can be produced.
Due to economic problems in the Philippine society, many families are suffering from poverty because of various reasons which the government was unable to provide. Some of these problems are lack of employment opportunities, education (lack and quality), access to proper medication, and others. Because of the many problems, some dismayed individuals have resorted to criminal activity. The LPP hopes to avoid these scenarios by conceptualizing feasible and attainable projects.
The LPP is made up of 79 provincial subdivisions. These member provinces regularly meet to discuss updates one each territory’s status. These meetings have resulted into several projects, which can be summed up in these fields:
Tourism
Knowing each member province’s assets would eventually lead to better tourism for all. By sharing best practices (in terms of garnering a larger tourist count), provinces would essentially develop new and better tourism projects. Also, by knowing how a certain cultural activity is celebrated in one particular area, can lead to tie-up projects or festivals. It’s more or less like a traveling tour – province taking part get a higher chance of being visited, cultural practices would be safely preserved.
Health
Certain diseases have spread in some parts of the Philippines. Knowing how these diseases first started, and why they’re not appearing on some areas, will lead to a better health program. Distribution of medication and welfare can be properly measured, by having valid and tested statistics from each member province. Also, development of medication can be further pushed, by having more data to base on.
Crime
There is nothing impossible for a man on the brink of desperation. After all, he’s got nothing to lose. Knowing why poverty persists on a certain province can help develop new projects. Job fairs and police assistance units can be managed on provinces in need of help. Also, focusing on the root cause of poverty will effectively push out despair.
The LPP is essentially a group that’ll let each of its member provinces to voice out their concerns. It’s a good avenue of discussion, which can provide fruitful results for all. After all, it’s for the people. And by influencing positive change at a grassroot level, progress can be felt as a whole.
